Hello, and welcome!

Since you’re here, you probably know this already, but in case you don’t: my name is Ilana Masad and I’m a book critic, PhD student, and author of All My Mother’s Lovers, a novel about whom some very nice things have been said by people like Garth Greenwell, R. O. Kwon, Kristen Arnett, and Laura van den Berg, as well some very kind reviewers. I’ve also written a bunch other fiction and nonfiction available across the world wide web and in some printed materials.

This is me (when I still had long hair):

And this is me after I shaved my head:

And…now my hair is somewhere in between the two, and that’s probably more than you ever wanted to know about my hair.

Although I don’t have the most coherent plan for this newsletter yet, my hope is to keep using it to do what I do best: write about books, both from a critical and personal perspective, and think through feelings about writing, mental illness, and the disaster times we exist in.

This may be a very bad idea, but you know what? There are lots of worse ideas being funded every single day.

I’m so glad you’re here!
